Some think of a vacation as a well-deserved break from reality to kick back and relax. Others enjoy the thrill of a fast-paced trip packed with adventures and activities. Vacations including adventure activities are becoming more popular as people look for more excitement, opportunities to have bucket-list experiences, and a chance to go off the grid. Adventure tourism includes various air, water, and land activities like mountaineering, hiking, biking, scuba diving, canyoning, sandboarding, paragliding, and river rafting. Consider the following adventure activities on your next international vacation.

Paragliding in Umbria
Three hours from Rome in the Umbria region of Italy is a town called Castelluccio. Located in the Appennine Mountains, Castelluccio is dotted with medieval villages, castles, and cultivated fields. The town sits on a hill overlooking the Piano Grande, a basin where fields of colorful flowers bloom every year. You can experience these stunning views by taking a tandem flight off Monte Vettore with local guides. Even if you miss the flowers, the mild weather makes this activity perfect year-round.

Experience a Volcano in Hawaii
On the Big Island of Hawaii, visitors can still experience the hot lava from the eruption of Mount Kilauea in December 2020. See this wonder from afar by visiting Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Visitors can take a guided hike and tour to witness the flowing lava and other thrilling views from several points in the park.

Trek with Chimpanzees in Uganda
In the Ugandan jungle in Queen Elizabeth National Park, visitors can trek with chimpanzees, monkeys, and birds in the Kyambura Gorge, one of the many ecosystems in the park. Book a safari from 3 to 7 days long to experience these unique animals and environments such as a savanna, forest, and wetlands.

Snorkeling in Belize
No tropical adventure vacation is complete without a snorkeling expedition. Visit the Great Blue Hole in Belize for one of the most beautiful snorkeling experiences. While deep diving is only recommended for experienced divers, beginners can snorkel in an area called Tres Coco, where tropical fish and coral is visible in 6 to 8 feet deep water.

Explore Ice Caves in Denali, Alaska
In Denali National Park, you can trek through caverns of millennia-old layers of ice and snow with expert guides. With 6 million acres of wilderness, the park truly encompasses several sights and wildlife.  If you visit from September to April, you can experience the aurora borealis on a glacial ridge only accessible by helicopter. Other activities at the park, depending on the season, include biking, hiking, and mountaineering.
