Get ready to celebrate World Tourism Day on September 27

Next week, the World Tourism Day will be celebrated around the globe. This year’s theme is Sustainable Tourism for Development, emphasizing on a tourism that contributes to all three aspects of sustainability – economic, social and environmental. By choosing this theme, the United Nation General Assembly wants to promote an industry that not only is a factor of growth, but also one that improves people’s lives and encourages environmental protection.

What can you do to join the celebration and the spirit of this year’s World Tourism Day?

On Wednesday, September 27th many events will be held around the world. The official celebrations will take place in Doha, Qatar and will be livestreamed online at wtd.unwto.org/official-celebration. If you would like to see if there is an event near you, you can also check the Celebrations Map at wtd.unwto.org/content/events-map-2017. If you are organizing or know of an event which is not listed, make sure to list it using the same link.

In addition, you can get familiarized with the 10 principles of the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism and take the pledge to travel with respect by sharing World Tourism Organization’s message on your social media account.
