Situation: While on her honeymoon in Greece, a member woke up with severe pain in her neck and shoulder. Her husband took her to the local hospital. After conducting x-rays and CT scans, she was diagnosed with disc herniation.

Emergency: The local treating team advised the couple they needed to be transferred to Athens for emergency surgery. However, the couple decided to get a second medical opinion from the member’s grandfather who is a neurosurgeon. He felt an emergency surgery was not necessary and advised the couple to return to the U.S. where she could receive proper treatment.

Assistance: After reviewing the member’s medical records, Global Travel Plus's medical team agreed with her grandfather and advised the couple to return to a hospital, so she could receive better pain management medication to ease the journey back home. The coordinator sent the couple a referral to a vetted local hospital that could prescribed the required medication. Upon her visit to the hospital, Global Travel Plus arranged for her repatriation via first-class commercial flight, accompanied by her husband who served as her non-medical escort. Car transportation to and from the airports was also arranged and paid for by Global Travel Plus.

Member Testimonial: "We felt cared for during all parts of our experience and everyone we spoke to was very helpful and knowledgeable. Being severely injured in a foreign country was scary at times, but Global Travel Plus was key in keeping us calm, informing us of options, and making a plan to get us home safely. We could not be happier with our experience.”
